As I write this, Puppet Showplace is preparing to announce the 5th cohort of our Creative Residency for Black Puppeteers (CRBP). Now led by two CRBP alumni, Ash Winkfield and Tanya Nixon-Silberg, joined this year by Charlotte Lily Gaspard of Midnight Radio Show, this program is expanding from two months to six months so that we can offer more support, mentorship, and community-building to support early-stage works by Black artists.
I am so excited to be celebrating the 5th anniversary of this Creative Residency this year! For many years before I became the director here, I have been moved by Puppet Showplace's long-standing commitment to nurturing the next generation of talented, diverse, creative puppeteers. But, to give these artists the support they need, we need your help.

Dey Hernández was recently on stage at ArtsEmerson, premiering On the Eve of Abolition, a visually stunning work imagining the end of incarceration
Anthony Michael Stokes premiered at the La MaMa Puppetry Festival
Nehprii Amenii’s HUMAN debuted at the Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts in a production that ARTS ATL called “a lush immersive experience” and “deep with otherworldly beauty”
Ash Winkfield directed The Harlem Doll Palace at Dixon Place in NYC
