About the Workshop
Interested in what brings a puppet to life? This workshop will cover the basic mechanics of operating one-person and three-person-style puppets, and will provide insights into the art form and its application in making theatrical choices. Participants will receive an introduction to Sandglass Theater’s approach to puppetry training and will engage in a fun, hands-on exploration with exercise puppets designed for training puppeteers.
This workshop is appropriate for all levels and does not require any previous experience in puppetry or performance. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.
Recommended for adults 18+
About the Instructor
Shoshana Bass is the second generation Artistic Director of Sandglass Theater and the director of the Puppets in the Green Mountains International Festival. Having been raised in a traveling family of internationally acclaimed puppeteers, she has spent her life witnessing and in dialogue with artistic voices of diverse cultures, heritages, and perspectives. Shoshana is an ensemble member with Sandglass Theater in many productions for both family and adult audiences, which tour nationally and internationally. Her solo puppet theater piece, When I Put On Your Glove has and continues to tour in North America, Asia, and Europe. She has been a primary force in Sandglass’ work on Babylon: journeys of refugees, a production about refugees that has garnered support from the National Theater Project and the Doris Duke Islamic Art Foundation’s Building Bridges Program. She is currently touring the show Feral, which was awarded support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Henson Foundation and numerous commissioners around the country. Shoshana is a primary teacher of Sandglass' annual two week training intensive in puppetry.
