About the Class
In this three-evening masterclass, join Xavier Bobés, visiting from Barcelona, Spain, in exploring how objects can be the “alphabet” of your performance. Little by little, participants will create “sentences” of movement — choreography that is easily understandable — and find their way to tell the story of the objects, the person they belonged to, or even something of fantasy.
Over his 20+ year career, Xavier has developed a theatermaking approach that draws on the life of objects, as well as works by writers who describe everyday life with a beautiful precision, illuminating the things that matter in our everyday lives.
Artists, performers, puppeteers, dancers and all who are intrigued by storytelling with objects are welcome! Participants will be invited to bring objects from home, and will work solo as well as in duos and trios, developing skill in wordless storytelling and the stagecraft of ordinary objects. The masterclass will close with a dialogue for invited guests, showing and sharing the process of the work.
Open to adults 18+
Don’t miss Xavier’s Things Easily Forgotten, an intimate and profound piece, performed for just five audience members at a time.
About the Instructor
Born in Barcelona in 1977, Xavier Bobés is a self-taught Theater of Objects artist. His passion lies in the poetry of everyday objects, and he has dedicated over 20 years to working with various types of everyday objects. Xavi collaborates with fellow artists, providing guidance, direction, and writing for Object Theater. His exploration delves into the symbolic content of objects and the seemingly mundane. He expresses this through creation, testing, and teaching. Xavi has created more than ten theatrical shows, including El mar: vision of children who have never seen it co-created with Alberto Conejero (2022), Corpus (2020), Things Easily Forgotten (2015), Insomni (2011), The King of Solitude (2007), and Head in the clouds (2004). Xavi is an experienced teacher and shares his expertise at various schools and festivals. His teaching engagements include: Obrador of the Sala Beckett, Barcelona Institut del Teatre of Barcelona, Elisava School of Barcelona, University School ERAM of Girona, UNIMA.
