About the Instructor
Leslie joined Puppet Showplace as the artistic director in the spring of 2021. A Northern California native and professional wearer of many hats, Leslie has followed her passion for puppet theater on a journey through the USA and Europe, arriving in Boston after a decade living, studying, and 'puppeting' in southern Ireland.
Leslie realized that puppetry was the art form for her during her time at Sarah Lawrence College, where she earned her B.A. in Theater and Literature 2010. When fate pulled her towards University College Cork in Ireland, she designed Master's and then PhD projects that allowed her to both investigate the field of puppetry and create her own work. Thus, in addition to being able to ramble at length about theories and philosophies of puppetry, Leslie has written, designed, built, directed, and performed shows and workshops for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
In 2013, her work featured in the inaugural Cork Puppetry Festival, and she progressed to the position of Assistant Director in 2018. Then as now, her goal is always to champion puppetry in all its forms and to help bring its magic to as many people as possible!
