Hiring: Social Media & Communications Associate
Puppet Showplace Theater seeks a part-time Social Media & Communications Associate to begin late October or early November 2024. Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications, the Associate will primarily be responsible for the social media calendar and related content production. They may also work on other projects, including print and digital design, blog posts, and marketing emails. The Associate will provide administrative support to the team, such as updating the website, managing third-party event listings, and organizing digital assets.
Located in Brookline, MA, Puppet Showplace Theater has been dedicated to presenting outstanding puppetry to diverse audiences through performances, workshops, and community outreach activities since 1974. The Marketing & Communications team is the Theater’s primary means of connecting and communicating with their audience members, the press, and the general public.
Qualifications:
We seek the following skills and qualifications, though we note that candidates need not have every qualification, and we encourage candidates to express through a cover letter why they would be an excellent fit.
1-2 years experience creating social media or video content, writing for the public, or similar communications experience. (Work, hobby, and school experience will all be considered)
Required Skills:
Writing: Ability to write both short- and long-form content for publication, to write in a brand voice, and to proofread others’ work. Excellent command of English grammar. Ability to write in a professional voice when communicating on behalf of the organization.
Idea generation: Has creative ideas for content and sees potential in existing assets. Able to see connections between the business of the theater and current communications trends.
Planning: Ability to work within and contribute to the management of a content calendar based on messaging and sales priorities
Graphic design: Able to work within brand templates, ability to expand templates as needed, and basic competency in Canva (or similar program)
Video: Basic competency in filming and editing for social media
A strong candidate should be able to clearly communicate ideas and explain creative choices, be excited to learn new skills and software, open to receiving and incorporating feedback, organized, creative, and curious.
Excitement for the arts, puppetry, theater, or children-focused organizations

This is an hourly position, paid at $18-22/hour, for 14-16 hours per week, primarily on-site in Brookline, MA. Some remote work may be possible. Specific work schedule will be determined during the hiring process.
This hourly position includes paid sick leave in the form of 1 hour of earned sick leave for every 30 hours worked. This role also includes discounted and/or free access to shows, workshops, and our puppet store.
Requirements:
Authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 required.
CORI/SORI background check is required.

Accessibility & Location:
Work will take place on-site at our theater at 32 Station Street, Brookline, MA. Our building has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and bathroom, and all areas the Associate will need to access are wheelchair-accessible. This role requires the ability to work on a computer for multiple consecutive hours and work in an environment that may be loud or crowded.
We are directly across the street from the Brookline Village T station on the MBTA Green “D” Line, a 10 minute walk from the Green “E” line, and close to several bus lines, including the 66 and 65. Paid street parking is available, and free parking may be possible though cannot be guaranteed.
