MIGRACIONES / MIGRATIONS follows the journey of migrating refugees in a unique performance that combines life-sized puppets, sand drawings, shadow puppetry projections, live music, and poetry in English and Spanish. This culture-crossing production is created in response to the increasing barriers between the Paradox Teatro co-founders’ home countries, the United States and Mexico.

Short Film Adaptation of “MIGRACIONES / MIGRATIONS”

Co-founders and artistic directors Sofia Padilla and Davey T. Steinman created MIGRACIONES / MIGRATIONS in response to the increasing barriers between their respective home countries of Mexico and the United States. The artists call the show “refugee puppetry and poetry in English and Español,” and say they created it partially “in honor of all the people whose needs push them to migrate far away from their homes forever.”

The artists will also be teaching a workshop on their techniques. More info here →

This project is supported by the Jim Henson Foundation and the Conversiones grant from the Mexican Secretary of Culture. It is also funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state arts agencies.

Saturday August 13, 2 pm - 4 pm
Age:
adults and teens
Capacity:
Limited to 12 participants
Cost: $50, sliding scale

Learn some of the puppetry techniques Paradox Teatro uses in their innovative performances! The workshop begins with a behind-the-scenes demonstration of a scene from their multimedia puppetry performance MIGRACIONES / MIGRATIONS. Students will be guided through creating their own shadow puppets and sand drawings, for use with light tables, cameras, and video projection. These techniques can be applied to a variety of live performance styles, filmmaking, and animation. The workshop ends with each participant performing an original 1-minutes scene using the techniques learned, accompanied by live music provided by Paradox Teatro.
