Cinderella
A Marionette Show by
The Tanglewood Marionettes
In Cinderella, there is a girl, named Cinderella, who is
treated cruelly by her stepmother and her two ugly stepsisters.
Cinderella is like a slave to her stepmother and stepsisters.
They make her work all day and night every single day. Her
only friend is a bird called Alouette. Meanwhile, the prince
needs a wife so his advisor, Rudy, holds a ball and invites
the entire kingdom. Cinderella can't go because she has
nothing to wear because her evil stepmother ripped up her
real mother's ball gowns and turned them into rags. Cinderella
starts to cry and suddenly her fairy godmother appears out
of nowhere. She transforms Cinderella into a beautiful lady
so that she could go to the ball. At the ball, she meets
the Prince. They fall in love, but she has to leave because
she promised her fairy godmother that she would be home
by midnight. Cinderella loses a glass slipper while she is
running home. The prince picks up the slipper and searches
for her by having every single girl in the kingdom try on
the shoe. When they get to Cinderella's house, her evil
stepmother has locked her in a room. The Prince helps her
to escape. They get married and they live happily ever after.
In the play of Cinderella, I thought that the puppeteers were
skillful and funny. I liked how the marionettes looked so
realistic and life-like. The marionettes wore very fancy
costumes. Cinderella was cool because when the Fairy
Godmother transforms her for the ball, the puppeteer flips
her from her raggedy outfit to her beautiful one. The
sound was neat too because they played a recording that
had acting and music in the background. I think that it
would have been too much for the puppeteers to have to act
and move the marionettes at the same time. The scenery was
painted on to giant boards that flipped open like a book;
they almost looked 3-D.
I really enjoyed the
puppet show. This was my first puppet show ever. I think
that the audience liked it too because they were all applauding.
I would totally recommend Cinderella to everyone.
