About the Camp: Can you imagine the world's craziest creature? Do you like making stuff by hand? Then join us on a safari to the far reaches of your imagination!
In "Creature Creators," kids will experience the fun and challenging process of puppet design, resulting in the creation of never-before-seen rod puppet creatures. Kids will explore the materials and mechanisms used by professional puppet builders to create imaginative characters and will learn the basics of puppet animation. Daily activities will encourage bold creative choices and exercise core artistic skills such as drawing, sculpting, color theory, and the many uses of real fake fur. Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and project-planning skills will also be acquired along the way. The week will conclude with a final showing and demonstration of everyone’s creations. In addition to puppetry activities, campers will enjoy fun recreational outings each day led by counselors from the Brookline Recreation Department.
About the Instructor: Brad Shur is the Artist in Residence at Puppet Showplace Theatre where he performs regularly and teaches classes to students of all ages, pre-K to adult. He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and has built puppets for extremely varied clients, ranging from American Idol to the USS Constitution Museum.
Instructor: Jacek Zuzanski, Dream Tale Puppets
Date: 8/26 through 8/30, 8:30am to 4:00pm
Location: Puppet Showplace Theatre
Cost: $400 (SAVE $50 if also enrolling in "Creature Creators!")
About the Camp: Puppeteers can bring entire worlds to life using nothing but imagination, movement, and simple materials. Want to know their secrets? Now is your chance!
In this one-week summer camp, students will work together as an ensemble to tackle creative challenges set in an imagined universe, leading to the creation of highly original puppetry scenes. Under the guidance of a master puppeteer, students will learn the techniques necessary to manipulate different styles of puppets ranging from found objects to hand, rod, and table top-style puppets. Communication, non-verbal expression, and teamwork skills will be acquired along the way. The week will conclude with a group sharing and performance. In addition to puppetry activities, campers also will enjoy fun recreational outings led by counselors from the Brookline Recreation Department.
About the Instructor: Jacek Zuzanski has a Master of Art degree from The State Puppetry Institute (Wrocław, Poland) and a Stage Directing Certificate from the Ministry for Art and Culture.
