On Saturday June 8, join us to kick off our 50th Anniversary Year, featuring Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC) performances at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm, a grown-ups happy hour following the 4:00 pm show, and extra fun in the lobby during the day.

10:30 am - The Fairy Tailor by Resident Artist Sarah Nolen — PWYC $3-50; tickets required

11:30 am - 1: 30 pm - Open House featuring The Gosh Darn Brass Band and Harry LaCoste (free — RSVPs help us plan!)

2:00 pm - The Fairy Tailor by Resident Artist Sarah Nolen — PWYC $3-50; tickets required

4:00 pm - For grown-ups: The Fairy Tailor with post-show open bar reception! — $25-100; tickets required

Open house to kick off our 50th anniversary year!

We’re turning 50 — join us in celebrating all year long, from June 2024 to June 2025! To kick off our anniversary year, you’re invited to an open house day on June 8, featuring:

  • Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC) performances of The Fairy Tailor by Resident Artist Sarah Nolen at 10:30 am & 2:00 pm

  • Open House in the lobby from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm (free, RSVPs encouraged!)

    • Live music with The Gosh Darn Brass Band and puppets by Fork and Shoe Theatre Cooperative!

    • Roving chats, jokes, and songs with Good News Gus (everyone’s favorite furry yellow monster) — performed by Harry LaCoste, who hosts our Puppet Playtime interactive program for ages 0-3

    • Arts and crafts station for both kids and adults — illustrate your memories of Puppet Showplace!

    • Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and puppets to play with!

    • Learn more about our plans for our 50th anniversary year — including exciting shows, a renovation project, and more!

  • Grown-up puppetry fans: this one's for you! Tickets to the 4:00 pm performance of The Fairy Tailor include a post-show open bar reception with beer, wine, and mimosas, and range from $25-100.

The Fairy Tailor by Sarah Nolen of Puppet Motion

Meet the Fairy Tailor, hard at work in her enchanted shop, where dressing racks and laundry baskets are known to have a mind of their own. Watch as she transforms everyday garments into extraordinary characters, and shares stories of bravery, from “Little Red Riding Hood(ie),” to “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” With the audience’s help, the Fairy Tailor summons the courage to take a stand against a giant, crafting a solution that combines cleverness with creativity. This whimsical, interactive production is guaranteed to inspire audiences of all ages!

Sarah Nolen

Sarah Nolen is a puppeteer and filmmaker originally from Austin, Texas. As Puppet Showplace Theater’s resident artist, she performs regularly for youth and family audiences and teaches puppetry in camps, workshops, residencies, and evening adult classes. Her three original productions, The Fairy Tailor, Judy Saves the Day, and Lisa the Wise, are all available to tour. Sarah recently designed puppets for Little Uprisings’s My Night in the Planetarium, Metropolitan Chorale's The Unicorn, the Gorgon, and the Manticore, and for Suffolk University's Loss of Breath: The Death and Life of Edgar Allan Poe. Sarah earned her BFA in film from Southern Methodist University, and an MFA in Puppet Arts from the University of Connecticut.

Harry LaCoste

Harry LaCoste is a performer, teacher, dad, ukulele rockstar. He uses puppets, songs, and magic to tell stories and inspire creativity with children of all ages. He also performs Puppet Showplace’s program for the very young, Puppet Playtime!

The Gosh Darn Brass Band & Fork and Shoe Collective
